I went out with Mitch, Bill, and Yvette to Montrose Harbor to do some night photography for the first time. It was a bit tougher than I had imagined, mostly because I couldn't see what I was doing and I didn't really have any idea of how long to set exposures for. We were also a bit rushed for time to catch a concert at Wicker Park at 10. Next time I go out, I definitely want to be a little more methodical about it.
The concert was freaking amazing. The Minibosses put on a damn good show. One of the best I've seen and heard. Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man 2 gave me goosebumps, they were so good.
I got my photos from Target and Shutterfly today. Without going into too much detail, I think that Target might have the best quality I've seen yet in a 4x6". Very nice, sharp black & white, with accurate colors and levels. One picture that I submitted returned with highly disappointing results, however, in that a lot of detail was blown out too bright in the center part of a flower. Regardless, I think I'll go back for a 8x10".
Shutterfly returned some beautiful results and some downright bad ones. I don't know what's up with that, but their colors seem a bit too light overall. The black and whites were very nice, however, maybe even a bit more neutral than Target.
I also went to Helix to pick up my print. Immediately obvious, without even any reference, was a very noticeable yellow cast. Very disappointing, because otherwise it was pretty good. I asked them to redo it, and I'll see what happens tomorrow. Chances are I'm going to have to take it to their facility downtown, which prints on actual black and white paper.
I'm completely pooped, so I'm going to go to bed. More tomorrow.
